Photoshop Express

Adobe has just released its much awaited "Free" version of their most popular image editing software, Photoshop. The new product is called Photoshop Express and yes, it's absolutely free.

I'll take you to an in-depth view on what this new product has to offer. Here are some facts that can greatly summarize what to expect in the new product:

  1. First, it's not a desktop based application (which means you don't need to install the software) its a web-based application (it can only be run through a browser).
  2. In addition to being a web-app, it runs on silverlight (oops pardon me, ehem) Flash. So your productivity depends on your connection.
  3. It's a free version, so don't expect a full-pledged Photoshop toolbar like selection tool, layers, etc.

So, if it doesn't have all the basic tools found in Photoshop why would anyone use it? Simple, its free. Though this product can never replace Photoshop (and why would Adobe let it?) it has the basic tools that lets you modify existing images. Tools like cropping, Hue, Tint and Touchup are very good tools if you are into image enhancement.

Here's a screenshot:

A feature that I can see here that I really like the standalone Photoshop to implement is the timeline. On the screenshot (upper part of the image), you can see a series of thumbnails, these pictures signifies the history of your image editting. You can basically go multiple steps back, I know that Photoshop has its History, but what I like about this is on how the history is presented more of like a timeline.

Would I use this? Nope, I'd rather use Gimp or Paint .Net because I think that Adobe should've brought this application to the desktop instead on the Web.

Same sentiments here...if only it were a desktop application. Any image editing software on the browser sucks. HAHAH! Give me MSPAINT anyday.
